Brooks's Law Simulator. Adding manpower to a late software project makes it later.

Theoretical Background & Agile Dynamics

Brooks's Law states: "Adding manpower to a late software project makes it later."

This happens for two main reasons: 1. <1>Ramp-Up Time:</1> New people need to be trained. This takes time away from the existing team members (mentors), temporarily lowering the team's total velocity. 2. <1>Communication Overhead:</1> As you add people, the number of communication channels grows quadratically ($N(N-1)/2$). With 3 people, there are 3 lines of communication. With 10 people, there are 45. The effort to keep everyone in sync eventually outweighs the work they can do.
